I’m Jessica Lackey - your deeper business and operations consultant

When you’re at a crossroads in your business - it’s time for some real conversations

You just don’t know what to do next, where to go from here - or how to move in that direction without hustling harder.

And it is so tempting to turn to surface-level strategies because we’re taught simple strategies to move forward: “Change your prices! Change your thoughts! Manage your time!”.

But in reality, when you have to figure out which way to go to grow, you need to dive deeper into your life and business and work with someone who can help you navigate the path forward.

That’s where you’ll begin with me.

So why did a Harvard MBA and former McKinsey consultant ditch the golden handcuffs to wander into the wild world of entrepreneurship…

… Because I didn’t have anyone when I hit my crisis points.

At every career crossroads, all of the advice I was ever given was to do more, be more, be different than myself. I received all of this advice that didn’t serve me at my core. I followed this advice and while it looked good on the surface, it led me farther from who I was and what I wanted my life to be.

I was trained as an industrial engineer, where I learned the fundamental skills of embedding operational efficiency and optimization into businesses (and humans).

I built my business background at McKinsey and Company Consulting and Harvard Business School, honing my diagnostic skills with projects and cases covering a variety of industries and companies. I spent my early 30s climbing the corporate ladder at Nike, moving into expanded leadership roles and being seen as “high-potential talent”.

Until I felt the impact of putting profit over people and sacrificing my body and soul to the corporate, capitalistic altar. I started to have some health issues and saw that something needed to change. I no longer wanted the next rung on the ladder and needed to look deeply inward first.

I no longer wanted to play the surface-level status games in corporate business: how I needed to dress to “look like a leader”, how to navigate getting promoted versus taking care of your people, how to speak truth without getting labeled as bossy or cold. This advice was promoting an image of surface-level, ego-centric success without allowing for rooted growth.

But I didn’t quite know how to choose a different path.

So, I took steps to rewild myself and build new roots: nutrition certification, becoming a life coach, embracing more somatic, spiritual, and feminist practices. I started Deeper Business consulting in 2021.

I thought when I broke out into entrepreneurship, I would see a different approach. But, I saw these same extractive business practices replicated in the entrepreneurship space. Continuing to perpetuate surface-level, cookie-cutter roadmaps as the pathway towards business growth.

  • Outdated formulas

  • Hiding the advantages that gave someone quick success

  • Realities of how these “seven-figure” entrepreneurs made their money off the backs of their underpaid, overworked team

“The Deep Dive felt like going through business therapy. I walked out feeling really clear on my values and gifts personally, and how that translates into what my business should look like and how I can leverage my talents for my business to support my lifestyle. Talking about the injustice we are serving brought up a lot of unexpected emotions around things I didn’t know were there and is helping me as I think about putting out programs and products in the future that align to that goal and serve that population.”
